Comment: This small sketch is preparatory to the painting done by Alexander Hesse in 1855 for the decoration of the Luxembourg Palace.
The painting is still hanging today in the Senate Messengers’ Lounge, facing Alexandre Cabanel’s « Richelieu et Louis XIII »
